“The Square Root of Three” by David Feinberg

    Saturday, April 26th, 2008

I just finished watching Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay. The poem in the movie, “The Square Root of Three” is the most awesome, clever poem I’ve ever heard. It was written by David Feinberg, according to this story. I must find it.

Update: iamawesome and deb posted it in the comments! Thanks a lot! Here it is:

I’m sure that I will always be
A lonely number like root three

The three is all that’s good and right,
Why must my three keep out of sight
Beneath the vicious square root sign,
    I wish instead I were a nine

For nine could thwart this evil trick,
    with just some quick arithmetic

I know I’ll never see the sun, as 1.7321
Such is my reality, a sad irrationality

When hark! What is this I see,
Another square root of a three

    As quietly co-waltzing by,
    Together now we multiply
To form a number we prefer,
    Rejoicing as an integer

We break free from our mortal bonds
With the wave of magic wands

Our square root signs become unglued
Your love for me has been renewed

This is why I like living in the US

    Boba + Burrito = delicious
There aren’t a lot of places in the world where you can have boba and a burrito for lunch.

    Ok, I give in

I began backing up my site on CVS. It makes it so much easier to work on it on different computers.

I love retro design and I was inspired by this example from Celebration Of Vintage and Retro Design by Smashing Magazine. I figured it’d be easy to make programatically, and I call the effect a “thoven”:
